Palazzo Portinari Salviati

an exclusive hotel in Florence

Immerse yourself in an authentic Renaissance atmosphere with a view of Brunelleschi’s Dome: it is possible, at Palazzo Portinari Salviati, in Florence. The new hotel of the LDC Hotels Italy family, in fact, shares the same name as the Palazzo in which it is located, in the heart of Florence. The Palace dates back to the 13th century; it was the home of Beatrice Portinari, the beloved of Dante Alighieri and daughter of banker Folco Portinari. Over the centuries, the Palace passed hands several times, from the Portinari family to the Salviati family, and hosted several distinguished guests, including King Frederick IV of Denmark in 1709. In 1865, during the period of Florence as the capital of Italy, the Palace was home to the Ministry of Grace and Justice, which sold it to Banca Toscana, which retained ownership until 2016. In 2022, after a restoration of a few years, Palazzo Portinari Salviati reopened as a hotel, very exclusive.

The 13 highly refined suites feature coffered ceilings, original 15th-century frescoes, and furnishings in the same style as in Renaissance times. The firm of architects Spagnulo & Partners, who led the restoration project, succeeded in maintaining the Renaissance atmosphere while masking from view the convenience of modern facilities. The hotel is also home to Chic Nonna (Chic Grandmother), a restaurant led by chef Vito Mollica, with an ironic name that expresses the intertwining of memory and innovation. LDCHotels.com
