at Fondazione Querini Stampalia
Through November 27, 2022, the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice, presents an exhibition, curated by Chiara Bertola and Danh Vo, dedicated to Korean painter Park Seo-Bo, in a triptych that also involves Vietnamese-Danish Danh Vo himself and American-Japanese designer-artist Isamu Noguchi. Park Seo-Bo’s color combinations appear almost light-hearted, sometimes even tending toward fluorescent, bringing a surprising luminosity to the surface.

Each of these paintings draws one into its own world, through the reliefs created by the generous brushstrokes, which at the same time create magical shadows. Viewed as a whole, they tell the story of the Artist, contextualizing it in the heart of the Sestiere Castello. Park Seo-Bo, born in 1931, an influential painter from South Korea, left his mark on contemporary art history. Very much linked to Paris, he is considered to belong to the ‘art informel’ style/current. He founded the Park Seo-Bo Art and Cultural Foundation in Seoul in 1994; his works have been exhibited in many prominent galleries worldwide, and are included in the permanent collections of several distinguished museums, including Tate Liverpool, and MoMA and Guggenheim, New York.
