Homo Faber. Crafting a more human experience

an exhibition in Venice

Homo Faber. Crafting a more human experience, is the second edition of the high craftsmanship event conceived by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftmanship. The exhibition was held in partnership with Fondazione Cologni per i mestieri d’arte, Japan Foundation, Fondation Bettencourt Schueller and Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice last May, at the Michelangelo Foundation.

Creativity was staged in the spaces of the foundation, with live and in-person participation by international Master Artisans; the overall curator of the event was Alberto Cavalli, flanked by 22 curators and designers. The event included 15 exhibits, telling the story of how the creations of top brands, which have always made craftsmanship their flagship, come to life. The section Details: genealogies of ornament, for example, curated by Judith Clark, was dedicated to Maison famous for their luxury creations. Such as Cartier, which celebrated the art of gemstone engraving with an opal-carved box adorned with a detachable bracelet and brooch, or Hermès, with a double warp silk satin yoke. Serapian showed how its hand-created bags are created, and Buccellati its refined silversmithing techniques.

The Magnae Chartae exhibition, curated by Michele de Lucchi, focused on Montblanc’s expertise in the art of handwriting. On the other hand, a series of companies, such as Visionnaire and Botteganove, furnished The Artisan: a crafted tea room, a bohemian-style tea room, curated by Tapiwa Matsinde. While Venini, in the exhibition Blossoming Beauty, curated by Sylvain Roca, reinterpreted tradition with a collection of vases in collaboration with famous flower designers. Finally, Panerai, famous for its pioneering watches of Italian design and Swiss technology, was present with Eilean, the 1936 yacht the company renovated, with a team of specialized masters.
