The Fashion Research Italy Foundation in Bologna will be hosting, through February 27, 2022, ‘The Kindness of Paper. Sustainability is Beauty.’ The exhibition features 18 sculpture dresses by Caterina Crepax; from June, it will also be on show at BonaveriMilano, the manufacturer’s Milan showroom. The artist designed the paper dresses thanks to her father’s manual ability and imagination, the famous cartoonist Guido Crepax. The paper clothes feature fabric patterns from the textile design archives of Fondazione Fashion Research Italy (F.FRI).

The beauty of sustainability
The exhibition addresses the theme of sustainability through beauty; this will also be the occasion to inaugurate Punto Sostenibilità (“Sustainability Point”), a complete archive of sustainable textile materials, accessories, and packaging for fashion. Materials and equipment, already engineered and ready for production, include recycled wool, regenerated silk, biodegradable jersey, recycled aluminum accessories, and old yarns and weaves.
The paper that shapes the clothes is produced with 100% recycled fibers from the Cordenons paper mill. The clothes are displayed on Schläppi 2200 mannequins, produced by Bonaveri. The mannequins are made from BPlast, a plastic made from 72% sugar cane derivatives, and are coated with BPaint, a vegetable-based paint. Therefore, the exhibition is an opportunity to rethink the impact of the pollution produced by fashion, not only in the making of clothes and accessories but also in logistics and packaging. Bonaveri, in this sense, is among the most advanced companies, already awarded many prizes for its sustainable processes. Bonaveri.it
