Andy Warhol. A pop-icon

An exhibition in Padua

The Altinate | San Gaetano Cultural Center in Padua, from September 30, 2022, to January 29, 2023, hosts an exhibition dedicated to Andy Warhol, icon-pop artist par excellence. The exhibition is curated by Simona Occioni, organized by ARTIKA, in collaboration with the Mazzoleni Foundation and the City of Padua; the exhibition itinerary is based on an idea by Daniel Buso and Alessandra Mazzoleni.

In his body of work, Andy Warhol depicted consumerism, and turned celebrities into eternal icons with decontextualized faces in brightly contrasting colors. The chromatic impact in replication delineated his style, which became unique and identifiable for an entire generation of artists. From his famous self-portrait, to Campbell’s soup, to portraits of celebrities, his work is a continuous mix of art and media consumerism, which he interpreted so immediately, reaching the general public directly. His great success is due precisely to his engaging and overwhelming simplicity.
Andy Warhol loved to surround himself with friends, famous and not, and helped discover and launch many young talents, such as, for example, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, in his ‘Factory’, the New York atelier.
The exhibition ‘Andy Warhol. Pop Icon’ is divided into six thematic sections featuring more than 150 drawings, photographs, sculptures, silkscreens, podcasts and etchings, representing, albeit in small part, the entire universe of the artist who died prematurely, when he was only 59 years old, in February 1987.
