in Venice, at the Gallerie dell’Accademia
The Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice presents a major retrospective exhibition dedicated to Anish Kapoor, through October 9, 2022. Curated by art historian Taco Dibbits, Director of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the exhibition represents the full visionary range of Kapoor’s practice, his painterly sensibility, and sculptural skill.

At the Gallerie dell’Accademia, Anish Kapoor presents a series of seminal works, from early sculptures executed with pigment, such as 1000 Names, to pieces on the void, to never-before-seen sculptures created with Kapoor Black, an innovative nanotechnology material, a substance so dark that it absorbs more than 99.9 percent of visible light. This is the first time Kapoor presents works made with Vantablack, the “super black” he has secured for himself for exclusive artwork use.
In this exhibition, Kapoor succeeds in creating a dialogue with the viewer, engaging them in the exploration of details, of the contrast between abundance in externalization and introspection, chromatic opulence, and minimalism. A continuous and repeated speeding up and braking down in observation, the perception of which is not immediate. Striving to understand whether or not a ‘Beyond’ actually exists leads to concentration, thus shortening distances and creating a close bond with the visitor. The exhibition continues and is completed with other works, exhibited at Palazzo Manfrin. (Assia Karaguiozova) Gallerieaccademia.it
