Fashion Love War
Palazzo Franchetti, in Venice, is dedicating an exhibition to Lee Miller and Man Ray, curated by Victoria Noel-Johnson. Through April 10, 2023, the show will display more than 140 photographs, objects and videos of both the versatile artist and the former model and fashion photographer, who was also a photo reporter in World War II. Of herself, Lee Miller, in fact, said, “I’d rather take a picture than be one.”

Between the 1920s and 1930s, Pablo Picasso, Dora Maar, Max Ernst, Cocteau, E.L.T. Mesens, Eric Lepape, Leonora Carrington, Eileen Agar, Roland Penrose, and Man Ray – great love and friend of Lee Miller – made up a circle of artists which originated Surrealism, and where creative contaminations between different artistic currents were evident. The images witness the vibrancy of the period. The exhibition gives an opportunity to learn about the historical period, between wartime context and fashion, and to delve into the dynamics of art interactions. One work in particular, ‘Portrait of Space’, with the smashed mosquito net opening to infinity, inspired Magritte for ‘Le baiser’. (Assia Karaguiozova) Leemillermanray.it
