An exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi, Florence

From September 22, 2022, to January 22, 2023, the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation in Florence presents a major exhibition dedicated to Olafur Eliasson, one of the most original and visionary contemporary artists of our time. Curated by Arturo Galansino, General Director of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, the exhibition is the result of work the artist did directly in Palazzo Strozzi’s spaces. Eliasson worked on all the Renaissance spaces, from the courtyard to the Piano Nobile to the Strozzina, creating a connection between the new and the historical works, placed in context in the Renaissance spaces. Using water, color and light, Eliasson’s path interacts with the public, who thus become fully part of the works.

Icelandic-Danish Olafur Eliasson works with sculpture, painting, photography, video and digital media, and designed lamps and furniture for Italian and Danish companies. His art also involves the public, through architectural projects, interventions in public spaces, and even art education actions. All the world’s most important museums dedicated exhibitions to his work, from 1997 onward. Among his site-specific installations, we can mention The weather project, a site-specific installation for the Turbine Hall of London’s Tate Modern in 2003, visited by more than two million people. For the installation Life, in 2021, Olafur Eliasson removed the glass facade of the Fondation Beyeler in Basel, and created an installation where bright green water from a pond was diverted into the museum’s galleries, along with a myriad of plants, ducks and spiders. The exhibition in Florence is promoted and organized by Palazzo Strozzi Foundation and Studio Olafur Eliasson, in collaboration with Fondazione CR Firenze, as well as with the City of Florence, Tuscany Region, Florence Chamber of Commerce, Palazzo Strozzi Partners Committee, Intesa Sanpaolo, and with the support of the Hillary Merkus Recordati Foundation, Maria Manetti Shrem, and the Metropolitan City of Florence. (Assia Karaguiozova) Palazzostrozzi.org
