Aldo Rossi, Teatro del Mondo

An exhibition at Iuav in Venice

There is time until May 31 to see the exhibition that Iuav – Università di Venezia is dedicating to Aldo Rossi’s Teatro del Mondo, the temporary artwork built during the 1980 Theatre Biennale. The work is documented by Antonio Martinelli through photography in sequence shots that are the only records of the project. The exhibition traces the story of the construction of the floating temporary building, the faces, the expressions, and the context.

It is an overwhelming narrative, complete with a video of images, illustrating the construction effort and the installation dynamics, moored in front of the Punta della Dogana at the 1980 Theatre Biennale. Shortly after that, Aldo Rossi, a professor at the Iuav – Università di Venezia, would be appointed to direct the Architecture Biennale. Moreover, at Palazzo Grassi, Aldo Rossi was the first Italian architect to receive the prestigious Pritzker Prize. (Assia Karaguiozova) Iuav.it
