Festival Sbrisolona&Co

Cakes, pastries and other desserts in Mantua

Three days of celebration dedicated to the typical sweets of the area: this is Sbrisolona&Co., the Festival held in Mantua from October 14 to 16, 2022. The Festival will be an opportunity to taste typical local desserts in the setting of the historical center of Mantua, which becomes a treasure chest of sweetness for the occasion. Sbrisolona is a typical Mantuan cake that dates back to before the 1600s and is distinguished by its grainy texture. “Sbrisolona,” in fact, means “crumbling”; the name comes from the texture of the dough, which can only be eaten by breaking the cake into pieces, which generate many crumbs. In addition to Sbrisolona, other cakes and pastries from the area can be tasted at the Festival, with a special focus on artisanal chocolate.

In fact, other cakes typical of the Mantua area are the ‘anello di monaco’ (monk’s ring), a leavened cake usually made for Christmas, from leavened dough with a soft filling of toasted almonds and hazelnuts. Or the ‘torta delle rose’ (cake of roses), which is said to have been created especially for Isabella d’Este in the late 15th century. The Sbrisolona&Co Festival is inclusive and also features the ‘torta sabbiosa’ (sandy cake), which is gluten-free and therefore ideal for celiacs and those who do not like gluten in general. Finally, the Festival offers a series of gastronomic and cultural itineraries to discover the wonders of Mantua. Sbrisolonafestival.it
