turns 60 and become collectible
The Arco lamp, an icon of made-in-Italy design, is 60 years old, so Flos is celebrating the anniversary with a limited edition in 2022 numbered pieces. In addition, Flos developed an encrypted NFT traceability system, to assure collectors that each numbered piece is unique and original.
Arco K, the name of the limited edition, is available for purchase by reservation only, with a long waiting list, given the complexity of the making. But what is different, then, from the first edition?

While retaining the same shape as the 1962 lamp, thus the same features as a piece of furniture, the new Arco K differs from the first edition in visible ways. In fact, the base of the Arco K is made of lead-free glass, generally used for optical prisms. Precision glass is not only recyclable; it lets one see all the components, thus creating an object that is both technical and sophisticated. A coiled spring was added around the mounting pin to ensure that the inner glass is protected from accidental scratches. Finally, the lower part of the block rests on a black mat, invisible to the naked eye thanks to the play of reflections created in the crystal block. Other than the base, the design of Arco K is unchanged from the original version. The stem is a metal profile with a U-shaped section, adjustable in three positions. The light source is a bulb with a semi-silvered dome, albeit LED. The dome consists of a solid part and a perforated part, originally designed to vent the heat developed by the light source and create a distinctive ceiling decoration. Flos.com
