Horto restaurant Milan

a new ‘ethical’ restaurant

Via San Protaso is a small street in downtown Milan, unknown to most. But we bet it will become a famous address in a short time. Via San Protaso, in fact, is one of the streets surrounding the big new downtown Milan redevelopment project, The Medelan. It’s an entire block facing Piazza Cordusio, on the side opposite Starbucks and Uniqlo; on the other side, it overlooks a crossroads from which you can get to the Ottagono of the Galleria di Vittorio Emanuele II and the Park Hyatt Milan.

On Via San Protaso, 5, is also the entrance to the new restaurant Horto, on the top floor of The Medelan, on the panoramic terrace overlooking the Duomo. A restaurant that would be worth a visit if only for the view. But there is much more here. Horto, in fact, is a new project of South Tyrolean chef Norbert Niederkofler, who is in charge of the restaurant’s strategic and operational direction. Horto’s kitchen, led by chef Alberto Toè, aims to create a new, “ethical” restaurant model that respects the land by using local raw materials. Farms, dairies and agricultural enterprises no more than an hour away from downtown are the references for Horto’s gastronomic experience, a cuisine that aims to reduce waste, refined and ethical simultaneously. During daytime hours, Horto offers the Sole lounge cafè, with a la carte menus; Horto, on the other hand, offers a choice between a la carte and tasting menu choices. Above it all, is the panoramic waistline over Milan Cathedral. Hortorestaurant.com
