Stone design for special effects

One of Salvatori’s most recent additions is the Omphalos natural stone table collection by John Pawson. As we know, Omphalos is a legendary stone, which is considered the center of the World in Greek mythology. According to the ancient Greeks, an omphalos, therefore, a sacred stone artifact, made direct communication with the gods.
Therefore, the English architect John Pawson, one of the founders of minimalism in contemporary architecture, has chosen the Omphalos as inspiration for his tables. The large, unusually low natural stone tables, rounded or rectangular, seem to hover close to the ground; the design creates the effect that hides the base and gives a sense of levity to a massive collection. The Omphalos table thus becomes the focal point of the space, thanks also to the choice of two neutral and soothing colors, Bianco di Carrara marble and Crema d’Orcia limestone.
